She was so tall that I had to tip my head back just to make eye contact. I asked if there was anything I could do to help.
“This is my first time shopping for girls’ clothes,” she responded. I showed her the pants and how to look to the bottom to find the “tall” brands. I assured her that we had tons of fun fashions, and I was sure she’d find things she’d love.
She reminded me of a beloved former volunteer, “Willa”. “Willa” identified as a woman. Initially, some were uncomfortable with her presence, but she quickly won over all who worked with her with her generosity of time, talent, humor…and chocolates, as well as other gifts! She volunteered for committees, helped with our in-person Purse Bashes and was always promoting our mission. She diligently processed the clothing in the back room and quipped that we gave her a lot of “hang ups”!
For a brief time, “Willa” served on our board of directors, and we shared many intimate conversations. Treasure House Fashions was her joy, and so many times, she shared how deeply she appreciated being here…it meant the world to her to be so accepted!
“Willa” passed away a few years ago. Her life was complicated, but she taught us some very important lessons:
We were so very blessed to have known ”Willa” – she enriched our lives and she’ll always be a part of our THF family! May our House always be a haven of love, kindness, and acceptance!
When in doubt, just LOVE!
