As we prepped for BAG SALE, ladies stopped in to take advantage of the 70-80% OFF – especially on the After-Five items. One woman scooped up a wedding veil and a lovely cocktail dress for her daughter’s wedding.
As she was paying for her purchases, tears started to flow – and the volunteers came after me to do damage control.
“What’s going on?” I asked, looking at the twenty-dollar bill in her hand and a check for $30.
“I was supposed to get paid in cash this morning, but they gave me a check instead. But I need to get gas and I just don’t have enough,” the woman sobbed.
“The gals tell me you looked amazing in this dress. What’s the occasion?” I probed.
“It’s for my daughter’s wedding, and I wanted to look good so my ex would be sorry for leaving.” she blurted out. How many of you can relate to that one directly or indirectly?
“We’ve got this,” I stated firmly. “Your bill is paid.”
“You can’t do that,” she protested. “I’ll sign over the check!”
“Of course I can – that’s what we do!” I announced. “But you have to do something, too. You need to wear this outfit with some attitude, girl, not even looking for him! You need to celebrate your daughter’s wedding!”
She giggled. “I can do that. Thank you so much!” she added with tears in her eyes.
Sometimes our world is crushed with a divorce or broken relationship and the financial wreckage that follows. That’s when we need encouragement that we can – and will – get through this! Sometimes, that comes in a fancy cocktail dress that makes us look and feel great!
