She comes regularly – especially when she’s feeling down. She’s been a loyal supporter of our mission for many years, but those years have taken a toll on her. She’s not a spring chicken – her kids are grown and gone, and she lives on a fixed income. Our House is her safe haven. We know her by name and always make a fuss about her when we see her ‘cuz she’s loved and so loveable.
She gathered up some fashions – cuz it’s fun and makes her feel good to support our mission, but something nudged me to say, “You know, I have a few Pay It Forward gift certificates that have money left on them; I’m gonna just use them with you so I can clear them off!”
She blinked away tears and gathered her “treasures.” She hung around until some of the other shoppers had walked away, and then she cornered me.
“Thanks for that – I really needed it!”
“You know we love you!” I reassured her, knowing that preserving her dignity and sharing kindness was soothing to her soul.
Financial struggles are drastically increasing, particularly with seniors. We delight in boosting budgets and soothing souls!
